Watch: how it works

Converting a link to MP3 in under a minute

How the conversion works

A video isn't one file. The picture and the sound travel as separate streams and get stitched together as you watch. Converting to MP3 means grabbing the audio stream on its own and skipping the video — which is why the audio downloads faster than the whole clip.

You paste a link, the tool reads the video's identifier, pulls the audio stream, and re-encodes it to MP3. For a typical track the whole thing is over in under a minute.

Three steps

A note on quality

An MP3 can never hold more detail than the audio it came from. Streaming audio is already compressed, so a very high bitrate makes a bigger file, not a better one. For speech — lectures, podcasts, interviews — the difference is inaudible. For music, the source is the ceiling.

What you're allowed to convert

Being able to extract audio isn't the same as being entitled to. Your own uploads, public domain works, and openly licensed material are fine. Commercially released music, films, audiobooks and paid courses are not, however easy the extraction is. Checking is your responsibility, not the tool's.

Is it really free?

Yes — no paid tier, no trial, no card required. The site is supported by advertising.

Why did my conversion fail?

Usually an incomplete link, or a video that's private, deleted, age-restricted, region-blocked, or still live. Commercially licensed music also fails more often than other content.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It runs entirely in your browser. Any site asking you to install software or an extension to download audio should be closed.

Does it work on iPhone?

Yes. The file saves into the Files app, and from there you can move it into whichever app you use.
